Questions about buying cars that we hear a lot

What is the best time to buy a car in Toronto?

November is usually the best time to buy a new car because that’s when manufacturers offer discounts and incentives on the previous year’s models to make room for new inventory.

When buying used, it’s hard to say if there is a best time of the year. If the dealership where you’re purchasing works on commission and quotas, then you may be able to get a better deal towards the end of the month.

Can I buy a car in Toronto with bad credit?

Yes. Many dealerships offer various financing and trade-in options. Some even specialize in financing people with bad credit (#2 from our list, Toronto Best Auto, is one of them).

What is the cheapest way to buy a car in Toronto?

While buying the cheapest car possible isn’t always an advisable strategy (the money you save often goes into bigger repairs), sometimes your budget limitations make that decision for you.

Several dealerships in Toronto offer excellent trade-in deals if you have an existing vehicle, AutoSelect from our list is known for giving very fair trade-in values.

One of the most overlooked factors in buying cost-effective cars is the cost to insure it. Check out or list of the 10 cheapest cars to insure before you sign on the dotted line.

Where can I find a second-hand car in Toronto?

There are many used car dealerships within the GTA (including the 10 we’ve listed above) but you can also find a vehicles from private buyers on sites like:

  • AutoTrader
  • Car Pages
  • Craigslist
  • Kijiji

If you go with a used car, always request a vehicle history report when you’re buying used, no matter where it’s from.

Should I buy or lease a car in Toronto?

Leasing or buying a car really depends on whether or not you want to build equity in the vehicle or if you’re just looking to trade up every 4 years or so.

Loan payments are typically higher than lease payments, but you will have a car you could potentially resell or trade-in in the end. You also won’t need to worry about footing the repair bills for wear and tear, in most cases (usually just oil and some basics). Keep in mind you may also have the opportunity to buy your car at the end of the lease contract.

Happy hunting out there!
