The top 10 cheapest cars to insure in Ontario

The cost of buying a car involves a lot more than the sticker price.

Even if you’ve found the make and model you want at a reasonable price, it would be wise to factor in the cost of car insurance, too. Some are the cheapest cars to insure than others – but that doesn’t make them cheap cars. Find the cheapest cars to insure in Ontario here, ranked from top to bottom.

Insurance premiums are based on a number of factors regarding any given automobile. These include original sticker price, estimated repair costs, safety ratings and a model’s claims history.

Cheap cars are typically assigned lower rates because they’re less costly to repair. Models that get high marks in safety tests also enjoy better premiums. Autos that have better claims histories in terms of damage costs they incur and inflict upon other cars catch a break, too, when it comes to car insurance rates.

It may come as no surprise that many of the the top vehicles on the list are family-friendly automobiles. That’s according to Insure.com, which posts cost-of-insurance rankings each year based on average rates for over 2,800 car models.

Want to know which vehicles topped the list? Here are this year’s 10 cheapest cars to insure. All figures are in USD.

Cheapest used cars to insurance for a teenager

Cheapest used car to insure for a teenager would be an older vehicle that doesn’t cost much to replace. From there, choose either a small car or a family-oriented vehicle. Just don’t choose any sports cars or 2-door coupes, muscle cars, or even recent sedans with mildly sporty exteriors.

Consider these used cars for teenagers:

  • Toyota Yaris
  • Honda Fit
  • Honda Odyssey
  • Honda CR-V
  • Subaru Forrester

These are great choices if you can find them used. Just remember not to get cars that are too old, or else you might have to make up the low insurance costs with higher repair bills! Finding the cheapest car for insurance with 17 and 18-year-olds is a bit of a balancing act.
